At the start of time there was only darkness. A void were only a silence lived, where darkness was one's sole companion, an infinite where nothing existed, where nothing could be found, no matter how far you ran, and empty landscape where nothing could be born and yet from the bast darkness the first light was born.
So small yet so bright, its sole presence could light up the whole universe, the first star, the brightest light it breathed life to all that came after.
From that first light, countless of stars would start shining deep withing the dark, and from each single star in the bast firmament the first consciousness of the universe were born.
They were powerful.
beings of pure mana capable of rewriting the universe.
Each governing over the concept their star was born under.
They were known as gods, said to be represented by each star in the universe, small or big. They with their infinite power shaped the universe in their ways, creating countless worlds to govern, each with countless souls made in their image, all so different. every single one made to give something back to the universe that birth them.
But this isn’t a story of gods and their feats, too many of them already exist.
This is the story of a small planet that caught the eyes of the most powerful beings in the universe.
A planet that would be known as Vielora.
The world before the fall has long since been lost, how it was formed, the history of its civilizations, everything is gone, just as earth is, scattered and with only its ruins remaining. But the history of its old glory has passed through the generations.
Humanity, the beings who once ruled this world. they used to be the only intelligent creatures under this sky, they were born through chance and luck without the intervention of any god, creatures shaped by this isolated planet in a lonely galaxy, born without the ability to use the mana they and every living thing in the universe is born with.
Despite being powerless, their intelligence and determination let them survive. As generations passed their cities grew and so did the technology and knowledge they had collected and relied on. Their race never met the beauty of magic, yet it thrived. stories say they were able to explain the inner workings of the universe through numbers and symbols. They were able to touch other planets without magic that could protect them from the void of space.
Their world was a set of perfectly made calculations that gave them every answer on the realm of the laws of the universe, even when they lacked the believe and knowledge of the existence of magic or mana as we know it.
That would change the day this little planet roaming in the immense space was discovered by the gods. They were impressed by their achievements, they just made what seemed impossible, a civilization that didn’t rely on gods for their crops to grow or for diseases to disappear. They wanted to reward them for their resilience and their ability to get over their great limitations.
And so the gods created new beings to serve and introduce humanity to magic, creatures inspired by their legends and religions.
They called us angels.
Since the first moment of our creation, our purpose was clear, we would take care and serve humanity. We would use our power to help them progress as a species now with the aid of magic and we would live in harmony with them.
It was a law we were physically and mentally unable to break. No matter how much we would want to try. Just attempting to point a weapon against them was enough to make us suffer, harming them was harming us.
Humans received the first of our kind with celebration and curiosity. Even skeptical people respected us and our power, they were intrigued by it. We were treated as equals or even superiors, by those who followed a religion of old mythological gods.
With us, a new era arrived, where magic and technology were combined. Humanity had a curiosity, resilience and experience we lacked, and we had the mana and the power humanity was never given for their purely evolutionary birth. It were beatutiful times. Until it just wasn’t.
The truth is, even without magic, humans were powerful, very powerful. And that power if not used to bring this civilization to one of the most advanced that may exist. It was a scary force able to bring destruction its way, with weapons so powerful and complex we might never truly understand them, not anymore.
Not all humans accepted us, some were the fearful, some jealous, some saw opportunity before seeing people, and many bought a fabricated tale that we couldn 't live together.
It didn 't take long for the wrong people to get the power to tell others we didn 't deserve to live in the same planet, and so the war started.
Or so they called it, it was a massacre, chained to the orders of the gods, our ancestors were unable to fight back despite their power, whole cities burned down and angelic bodies filled the streets in bloody inquisition.
Humans themselves weren't safe from the bloodshed, some helped us and were killed for that, many suffered the consequences of the chaos, of the many other wars erupted from that first one against our ancestors. Details of those other wars lost in time.
Angels almost went extinct after just a few years, ever smaller groups went into hiding trying to survive for one more day. They prayed to the gods to save them, to have mercy for them, singing under the sun and moon to be saved.
No one seemed to hear.
"This is it, we will die by the hand we were meant to serve, and no one will cry for us."
What I just read was a quote that was recovered from an old diary that was preserved to our days. And then it might have looked like that. No one would have expected how everything would end.
When many accepted their fate, there were those who couldn 't.
The legends talk of an angel who at the brick of death sold their soul to a unknown power, to break free from the imposed order of the gods, falling from grace to the promise they won 't die.
Without their chains, the power they gained was incomparable to anything any angel or human had ever seen.
Writings talk of a monster of uncountable eyes crying golden blood, of ebony black wings that replaced and extended from every limb, and a presence that could make anyone kneel.
Like that first fallen, six more appeared, and with only them the tide of the war shifted.
It wasn 't the victory anyone expected or wanted, as those fallen monsters dragged whole human cities to ruin and not even our ancestors knew if they were friends or foes.
Humans never gave up trying to fight them, and no one knew what would happen if either side won.
"Will they come for us after the last of the armies are gone? or will the human punish us for their rebellion once the monsters are defeated? I don 't want to know."
There was never a chance to answer to those questions.
It happened suddenlly and without warning, every record described the same event.
"A flash of white light filled the sky, its light burned everything and for what could be seconds of could have been hours the only sound that was heard among the blinding light were screams and the fall of the only world we knew. The earth crack and the oceans rose and the atmosphere itself cracked down."
"I closed my eyes, i begged the pain would pass, and when i opened them again the world i lived in was gone, every human i knew my friends or my hunters, they all were dead, planes crashed, buildings fell and everything was still exploding, all that was left was a cold wind growing stronger."
That event marked the start of what was known as the ice age, thousands of cold years which mark can still be seen in the far northen regions of our world.
in a matter of days the whole planet froze, clouds covered the sky in darkness and refused to leave.
and the oxigen became so thin humanity wasn 't able to last.
Even the fallen dissapeared and our ancestors were left alone in the cold ruins of the world they were created for. Without an order, without a guide without anything or anyone who would come for them.
"We were waiting to die, and now there 's nothing else for us, but trying to move forward."
And so our ancestors did that 's why we are still here.
From the Ice Age itself, there aren 't many records either, but we know more of than we know about the human era. We know that angels had to rebuild their civilization.
We know the Ice Age was an era of chaos, where many groups and factions constantly fighting over territory and resources. We also know that the planet started shifting around the area the floating islands we see all around us in our day started appearing around this area why they are here defying gravity, that part is still unknown to this day.
The inventions of humanity. Many of them were no longer functional. Anything that, during the human era, required mana, exploded and stopped being functional.
All the angels could rely on was what they left behind, any battery, any galon of gasoline, any clothing and food that was left behind among the ice and snow.
Magic which was uderdevelop in the human area had to be rediscovered, this led to the creation of the first spells, the first hope nyphen would survive
and yes I called the Nyphen now. It was around the Ice Age when angels decided to change the names of their race. After all, after the end of inhumanity, we were no longer the peaceful angelic creatures that were made as a gift.
We were us. And so we decided to call ourself nyphen. A world that, in the human era, didn 't have a real meaning, but now belongs to us.
The first forms of magical creatures also appeared during the Ice Age. The records didn 't describe them as we know them today. Creatures that run the world with different amounts of powers.
The monsters described in the Ice Era where shadows, with sharp claws and awful smells that could snatch anyone from the shadows to never be seen again.
With the first monsters appearing, even with magic, Nyphen didn 't have it easy. Starvation, hypothermia, enemy factions, monsters. Our ancestors could survive the lack of oxygen and spend weeks without food or water. They still needed to feed and they still needed cover from the cold. So with our rediscovered magic either on purpose or accidental, our ancestors created the first records of Graveborn races, skeletons, Frost walkers, and Ghosts.
The kind of beings that would have been called impossible in the human era. Even if the firsts were also born from nyphen gave a bit of variety to the new world with strengths nyphen didn 't have, and it would remain like that for long, maybe forever, if the gods didn 't return.
Keep this in mind, it 's been three thousand years since the flash. So much time, not even the sons and daughters of the original nyphen who first witnessed the flash remained. Yet, because of the long lifespans of nyphen, the original history is still deep within the cultures of the existing factions.
After three thousand years, the planet was finally starting to warm, the sky was starting to clear. The temperatures started to be still cold but just warm enough for more life to start appearing again without the immediate intervention of the nyphen.
The start of the rebirt era marked by the flight of the first recorded phoenix and with that phoenix came the gods. The seven gods that to this day oversee our planet. They didn 't expect us to still be alive. Their intention was to occupy a planet that first belonged to humanity, thinking it would be empty.
Seven gods that in the past fought against each other to be the god of humanity. Now they settle in sharing their ruins. The wound still existed but wasn 't as fresh. Still our ancestors didn 't want the gods around. They heard histories from great great grandparents of the gods that left them to die. And our ancestors didn 't want to suffer a similar fate accepting gods as if they were a gift. And this suspicion against gods still follows our culture to this day, even if after generations many came to accept the gods.
Despite our ancestors refusal , the gods settled in the different continents now name after them and created new races of all kinds of shapes an appearance, all inspired by the humans who once existed but clearly weren 't. With them our ancestors started new wars.
There are more records of wars among gods ' created races among anything else in this era. Our ancestors fought, and they fought hard.
If you allow me to get out of the topic, this shows how strong our race is, even if we are unable to use offensive magic directly.
There were Wars against the races of nature, wars against the cities of artisanry, wars that may never have ended in the continent of will, a series of wars and chaos lasted for quiet a few hundred of years one after another.
The gods wanted to settle, their new races wanted to live without fear and constant war. Peace only came as the result of many conversations, many agreements, many of which their value still holds to this day.
The proof of this peace treaty was the creation of a magical artifact, the rebirth relic, a gift from the gods to the nyphen. A promise that the world we live in will remain to be our home.
Is unfortunate though that the relic got lost in time, its promise still holds but the relic itself is no longer with us.
The rebirth relic is the main reason this age received its current name, but in the eyes of many its name came from the rebirth of this world, the birth of Vielora.
But among nyphen the only part of that sentence we agreed with is that it was the era were the temperature became survivable once more without five layers of clothing. For us the new world was born with the flash.
If the rebirth era could be called, the time our ancestors fought for their place in the world, the discordant era, was about where and how. The civilizations known to this day still didn 't exist, and many countries rose and fell, some independent, some attempts from the gods to build something in a place that didn 't fit them.
The wars wereconstant conversation of what belonged to who and where. It didn 't help that around this area, many new races started appearing, many of which weren 't claimed by any of the gods to be their creation. From anyone 's perspective, they appeared out of nowhere.
They were called nyxkins, races without a claim with often strange and historically called "barbaric" behaviors. They also tried to settle in the world, exacerbating the existing conflicts.
The god of will, ended up taking most of them under his wing, even if their origin is still a mystery.
The discordant era ended, with the final settlement of the current territories, and the foundation of Stargaze city. considered the capital of the world, this city is the neutral territory protected by all the seven gods.
While nyxkins may have been the first few races that appeared that weren 't created by any god as far as is known. Definitely weren 't the last, nor the most controversial.
The bloom could be considered a very peaceful time. The agreements were finally made, the continents, territories, it was known what belonged to who. They were slowly developing to proper communications, proper economy, they were very good times to live.
If you weren 't a remnant or a dysphorian.
These two sets of races appeared close together, both from the ruins. The Ruins, among the debates for territory, was quickly discovered to be a place where, although not impossible, it was difficult for any civilization to live long term.
The ruins form humanity times had fused into the very environment over the the years. You would be walking, above mountains of glass, metal and scraps, and a very punishing weather and if not only for the dangerous and unstable territory, the whole continent is filled with dark mana. Not to be confused with the element of darkness, or confused with shadows,
Dark mana is a corrosive form of mana that could degrade anything into nothing if exposed by it for enough time and with enough intensity and the very monsters from the ruins, are beings of dark mana with their sole touch causing damage, and yet from this place the remnant and the dysphorians were born.
The remnants came first, being remarkable at being non-remarkable. Beings that resemble humanity and the lives of humanity before the flash.
Remains were the first of this category that appeared. From afar, if you have seen enough images of humans, you may have called a remain a human. They aren 't and that become clear quickly, but the resemblance is uncanny at times for researchers.
Remains have an aura that seems to attract monsters and probllems whetever they go. This last characteristic was mainly what made them unwelcomed in many places they went. And depending on who you talk to, some people would have even called them disgusting.
Not all remnant races look like humans nor have that aura, but that aura ave become an steriotype of the races.
And then there were the dysphorians, who might as well have been even worse received than the remnants. Races born from dark mana in the ruins, with appearance that truly resemble monsters. Some could be confused with Shadow figures from the ruins. Some resembled masses of flesh, some were indescribable anywhere outside the continent of fantasy.
These races were often considered lesser and unworthy. Less than nyphen, less than the races created by the seven gods of Vielora. Less than the nyxkins that came before them and had settled down already in the world. This is the very reason why to this day many of the dysphorians and Remnants still inhabit the ruins.
Now days the threatment towards these races have gone a long way. If only didn 't come before a war, around that time, a king of Will, an Enterprise from Artisanry, and a long since excommunicated Council member from Judgement, teamed up to make a war against the Remnants.
With powerful armies, they tried to exterminate the race. They fail. Even if they weren 't remarkable in power, Remnants aren 't anything if not adaptable. Surviving attack after attack and fighting back until the saying sticked that a remnant isn 't dead, until you see their corpse dead and cold
The war that lasted longer than anyoe liked to admit, it wasn 't until the attention of the public forced agreements to accept both remnants and dysphorias as recognized races of vielora. Those agreements still exist and disrespecting them could lead to grave consequences.
But it 's sad to say that even to this day, there are still people who look down at dysphorians and Remnants even if more quietly, but it has gotten a lot better.
Which lead us to our current age, depending on who you ask. Magitech era or Magika era, time will likely be the one who decides what we 'll call it. But so far, what has characterized the current era has been the developments in technology and magical knowledge
The rediscovery of computers and cell phones that were notable inventions back in the few records of the era of humanity, the discovering magic cores and the developments that allowed the creation of artificial races such as robots and golems, the recent boom in the creation of new and powerful spells and whatever the near and far future will bring us.
The world is in constant change after all. Who knows, maybe something big is coming.
